Zamenjava tujega vozniškega dovoljenja

If you hold a valid foreign driving licence, you may drive in the Republic of Slovenia in accordance with the Slovenian Drivers Act and the applicable international agreements.

Holders of valid driving licences issued by European Union Member States, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, may drive in Slovenia without any time limitation, provided that their driving licence remains valid.

If your driving licence was issued in a non-EU country, you may drive in Slovenia after registering your residence, subject to the conditions and time limits laid down by Slovenian legislation and the principle of reciprocity.

If you have established your normal residence in Slovenia and meet the legal requirements, you may apply to exchange your foreign driving licence for a Slovenian driving licence. The application can be submitted at any Administrative Unit (Upravna enota).

As part of the exchange procedure, you will generally be required to submit:

  • your valid foreign driving licence;
  • a valid medical certificate, where required;
  • a passport-size photograph;
  • proof of payment of the prescribed administrative fees; and
  • any additional documents requested by the competent authority.

As the exchange procedure depends on the country that issued your driving licence, we recommend that you first contact the Administrative Unit (Upravna enota). They will determine whether you are required to pass a theory test, a practical driving test, or both, and will inform you of the documents you need to provide.

If you are required to take a theory test or a practical driving test, our driving school will be happy to assist you. We offer professional guidance throughout the process, help you prepare for the required examinations, and take care of everything needed to help you obtain your Slovenian driving licence.
